About the Experience

Immerse yourself in twelve days of hands-on permaculture, agroforestry, and community projects across central Bali. Based around Ubud and Tabanan, this experience takes students into eco-villages, rice terraces, community gardens, and coastal villages to learn how Balinese communities blend tradition, sustainability, and tourism. Students live in simple permaculture homes, work alongside local experts, and explore how climate action and culture can go hand in hand.

Duration: 12 days, 11 nights across Ubud, Tabanan, and UNESCO Jatiluwih rice terraces.

Permaculture and eco-village design: soil regeneration, organic planting, and waste management.

Organic rice farming and ancient Subak cooperative irrigation methods.

Community gardens and women-led agricultural initiatives.

Beekeeping and pollinator livelihoods in highland village settings.

Agroforestry, shade-grown cacao, and organic coffee processing.

This 14-day programme is based on Ilha de Moçambique, a UNESCO World Heritage island where volunteers support a community centre for children while engaging in permaculture, environmental action, and creative education. Students live close to the Heartseed centre, help run daily activities for around 60 children, and experience the island’s unique mix of African, Arab, Portuguese and Indian influences.
